How many books can you read this year?

Today, you will complete a Snapshot Book Review.

The Why:  Choosing books to review that you don’t know; that is, those genres or authors that you don’t read, can expose you to new reading possibilities.

Choose two random books and complete the review. Now you need to select your first book to read. It might be one of the two books you reviewed. If not, find a book.

Every day you will read for 10 minutes. You will complete the Independent Reading form.

Reading Expectations:

  • Read every day in class
  • Read every day outside of class
  • Read a minimum of 100 pages per week
  • Read for both variety and challenge
  • Create a reading ladder

Adventure and Survival

Lord of the Flies by William Golding

Into the Wild by Jon Krak

                       White Fang by Jack London

Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen

                                                                 The Contest by Gordon Korman

We are learning to…

make sense of a text

choose books that match our interests and abilities

We will often begin the day with writing. You can bring in your own idea to write about or you can choose to write about the daily prompt.

SACRED WRITING TIME DAILY PROMPT:

“Is a nickname always fair?  Write the story (truth or fiction) about someone earning his or her nickname.”

Today, we need to finish the reading diagnostic we started last week.

We have completed #1 of “Is the Law too Soft on Crime?” that asked us to preview the text features and write a series of questions that we believe the text will answer.

Now I would like you to read the selection and answer the remaining questions.

Next, we will complete a Snapshot book review activity that will help us find books that we really want to read.
