We are learning to express a perspective, idea, experience, or belief in various text formats.

Sacred Writing Time: An imaginary visitor

Imagine that an alien teenager is sent to earth to visit you!

What would this character look like? Sound like? Be interested in?

You will be creating the character in one of the following tools next week:

Doppel Me

My Blue Robot

Avachara

Here is an example by a student in the Universe is Made of Tiny Stories project.

Sacred Reading Time: You will read your independent novel and track the number of pages you have read. If you have finished a novel, you need to write in a Big Idea Book. Today, I will continue having reading conferences with you.

Today, you will finish writing your letter to the editor. To assist you, have all of your materials and tools out on your table:

  • model letter to the editor
  • transition word sheet
  • criteria checklist
  • editing checklist
  • research notes

We always have to consider our audience (to whom are we writing) and our purpose (to persuade, to inform, to entertain) when we write and/or create texts. Where will you publish your letter?

Review Our process:

First, we brainstormed a list of potential topics that you might like to write about in your notebook (class side). Then we viewed the following sites to help us generate ideas:

Next, we each choose an issue and completed our Research Planner.

Now you will write your draft using the letter outline in your notebook or in Word.

You will ultimately have to word process the writing and submit it to me electronically.

Once you are done writing, re-read your writing, using the editing checklist and make revisions.

Have a peer read your work over and provide you with feedback using the Peer Feedback tool.

Make final changes and submit the letter to me via the course blog Assignment Submission page.
