Thursday

I am away today. Here is what I’d like you to focus on today.

First, 30 minutes of class you will read and work with your reading

You will need your books today.

  1. Read independently for 20 minutes.
  2. Track your reading on your tracking sheet.
  3. Create one post-it note on the section of the novel that you read today.

During the second 45 minutes of class, you will complete the “99 Reasons Why It’s Better To Be Canadian” Top 10 List and Top 3 List from last week. The reading and activity sheet are in your folder.

When you complete your lists, use “99 Reasons Why It’s Better To Be Canadian” to help you create a question chart.

Go to the Q Chart for “What does being a great Canadian look like?”. Complete the chart by writing questions and adding the questions to the chart. You will be working on this document together. So pay attention to what is going on in the document.

Friday: Evidence of Learning Document:

READING STRAND #2:

You might choose to do Reading Strand #2 first. You will either answer questions on Wenjack or you will gather (copy and paste) your existing answers on Wenjack into this document. Once done send it to me and I will mark it, so we can determine your level of understanding of text features.

READING STRAND #1

You must have evidence that you can identify the narrative elements and literary devices, and that you can locate them in your reading. For level 3-4, you need to have evidence from your independent reading. If you don’t have the work done, you can choose to do it now. Here are some of the resources you might use:

You can also use post it notes like this

If you use the work we did as a whole class or in groups, you will assess it at level 1 or 2 because it is not work you did independently.

This week we will be re-focusing on producing an academic progress report both for your parents and guardians to know how you are doing in this course, but also so you have a clearer idea of the progress you are making.

Writer’s Notebook:

“What makes a story interesting to read?

Turn the question into a statement. This will be the topic sentence of your paragraph (first sentence).

There are many ways an author can make a story interesting to read.

                                             How                                      How

Fill in your thoughts and answers. Focus on only two ways.

Turn each point into a sentence. Your first sentence should be the introductory sentence (topic sentence).

Write your paragraph.
